  1. How Exactly do I Use the Tide Graph on a Casio Digital Watch?

Hello readers, and welcome back to the FAQ Section of the blog, where we take a deep dive into your questions, and hopefully surface with an answer! In this article, I’ll be talking about diving watches, specifically the Tide Graph part. Now, I’m sure many of you have noticed that not all Tide Graphs are the same, there are both analogue and digital ones. Here, I’ll be focusing on the digital ones, and a future article will cover the rest. The example I’ll be using is the G-7900 series, but all digital tide graphs function the same. Ready? Here We Go!

    g7900-1_xlarge

So the first thing I should explain is just what a tide graph does. You’ll notice the graph has 3 horizontal lines. If the tide is really high, all 3 lines will be filled, if it’s low, just one part of the line will be filled. You can use the tide graph to set the time for the next day, and see what the tide is usually like during that particular time of day.

First up, let’s set the tide graph up. On your watch, press the mode button. You’ll notice the date hasn’t changed, but the time is set to 6 am, so it’s showing you what the tide was like at 6 am on that day. To go to the time now, simply press the forward button until you reach the correct time. If you want to change the date, press the adjust button to go to the moon phase mode (more on that a little later). To go back to the tide graph, press adjust again.

So, let’s move on to the moon display. As many people know, the moon affects the tides, so the two are interconnected. To go into the moon phase, press adjust while in the tide graph mode. You should see the word moon on the top part of the display, along with the date. The moon graph on the left (or right for some watches) will have a graphic and look full or not, depending on what the moon is like on that date. The visible part of the moon will be clear, while the invisible part will be black.

At the bottom of the display, you’ll notice a number (whether whole or decimal) between 0 and 29 based on whether it’s a new moon, waxing, crescent or full.

But how does the tide graph know where we are? That’s actually based on your home city, so if you’re traveling, don’t forget to change it! To calibrate the watch further, you’ll need to do some research. Find out what time high tide is where you are. Then hold the adjust button until you see the word HIGH on the left of the display. Look up the tide tables on the net and see what date and time the tide will be highest at your location, and adjust it accordingly by pressing the top and bottom right buttons.

You can do the same for the moon phase indicator by pressing mode again once you’ve fixed the high tide time and it will allow you to choose whether the moon is passing to the north or the south of you when you look at it at night.

Hope that’s been helpful! We’ll cover the analogue moon phase and tide indicators next time.

  2. Introducing the GA700CM Casio G-Shock Camouflage Series

The Camouflage Range Just Got Bigger With the Casio G-Shock GA-700CM Series!

You asked, and Casio has listened. Ever since we got the Casio G-Shock GA700 series, people have been clamouring for them. The only thing missing was the ever popular Camouflage pattern. Well the wait is now over. Were they worth the wait? Let’s see!

    ga-700cm-2a
First up we have the GA700CM-2A. As you can see, the band looks to be a mixture between light and dark blue, with some people mentioning that it looks purple in some places as well. The display is a negative display, with light blue numbers on a black background, and even the backlight button is a navy blue as well as being stainless steel.

    ga-700cm-3a

Next up is the army green GA-700CM-3A. Perfect for blending in when you're out in the forest, whether hiking or hunting. The band has mixtures of light green, dark green and black to blend in with the trees and leaves. Another negative display, this one has light green numbers on a black display.

    ga-700cm-8a

Finally, we have the GA-700CM-8A. This one is grey, and resembles the sky during winter (or when it's particularly foggy). The patterns on this watch are lighter and darker shades of grey, mixed throughout the display and the band. Unlike the previous two models, this one has a regular display of dark numbers on a light background.

With the GA-700CM series, you're getting everything that made the GA700 such a hit to begin with. You don't have to worry about the screen being too dark to see, as these watches have a Super LED Backlight, lighting up both the analogue and digital displays.

With the hands being really thick, some people may worry that they won't be able to see the digital display properly. You won't need to worry though, because the watches have a hand shift feature. Simply press a button, and the hands will move out of the way, giving you an unobstructed view. They'll then move back to where they were supposed to go, once you press the mode button.

The biggest draw of the GA700 series was the auto start stopwatch, with a brand new stopwatch alarm. That makes its way to the GA700CM series, letting you set a goal for yourself, and try to beat it before time runs out. This is a great training tool, as well as motivation.

The last advantage I'll discuss is the battery life. While most new watches come with a 2-year battery, this particular series has an extra-strong 5 year battery! So you don't have to worry about it running out any time soon. This is all on top of a shock resistant module that ensures your watch keeps running, even if you drop it or bang it into something.

The GA700CM Series is now available at BuyWatchesOnline!

  3. Introducing The Casio 110CR Series!

Perfect for Couples, Introducing the Casio 110CR Series.

If you and our partner like to go out, you know how important it can be to match. Well, Casio has come out with the 110CR series, which will definitely make things easier. Introducing the Casio GA (AND BA)110CR Series. A series of transparent watches that are made for both men and women (with the BA-110 series, it can also be used by boys, as there are no obviously female colours). Let’s see what we’ve got!

These watches are the result of a partnership between Casio and Aqua Planet, so that’s why each of these watches have a shimmering, sea like quality to them.

    ga-110cr-2aba-110cr-2a

First up, the 110CR-2A. Both the Baby-G BA110CR and the G-Shock GA110CR have a dark, transparent blue band, as well as bezel. This surround a dark, negative display that’s a combination of analogue and digital. The added benefit of having both displays is that they’re much larger than watches with only one type of display.

    ga-110cr-4a ba-110cr-4a

Next up, we have the 110CR-4A. This one looks almost identical to the 2A except it’s more of a dark, transparent red. Inside the display, it’s again light numbers on a dark background, with the hands also being white, making it easier to read the analogue time.

    ba-110cr-7a ga-110cr-7a

If you’re not a fan of the negative displays, then you’ll be after the 110CR-7A. This is a transparent white band and bezel, with a regular analogue/digital combo display. For some people, that’s actually a lot easier to read. The hands and hour markers are tipped black and grey in order to make them stand out even more, and make it easy to read.

Now let’s get to the features. Before we go on, I should warn you that there are 3 key differences between the BA110CR and the GA110CR series. Firstly, the Baby-G models are 100m water resistant, while the GA110CR is 200m. Secondly, the GA110CR is also resistant to magnetic frequencies. Finally, the GA110CR’s stopwatch measures at 1/1000-sec increments, making it just a little more accurate if you enjoy running.

One additional feature in the G-Shocks is actually tied into the stopwatch, because with the 1/1000-sec measurement, you can also use it to get a speed estimate. If you like running, that’s great to use.

At night, it will be hard to see the digital time, but that’s not the case for the analogue display. That’s because the hands and hour markers on both the Baby-G and the G-Shock are covered with a neobrite substance, making them not only glow after being exposed to light, but actually stay glowing for hours.

The BA110CR and GA110CRs are now available at BuyWatchesOnline! Check out the rest of our 110 series here. Until Next Time - Jimmy B

  4. Introducing the GMAS Step Tracker G-Shock Series for Women

Introducing the GMAS Step Tracker G-Shock Series for Women!

That’s right, I didn’t make a typo. The watches I’ll be talking about here are G-Shocks specifically designed for the feminine wrist, and they’re step trackers to boot, so if you thought the BGS100 Series was a little too small for you, then then GMAS130 series will definitely do the trick. Ready? Let’s get to it!

    gmas130-1a

First up is the GMAS130-1A. The larger version of the BGS100SC-1A, this is completely black (the buttons, bezel, band and even the display) with the only grey coming from hour markers and hands. Unlike the BGS series however, the GMAS130 has a rectangular digital display (the BGS’s is more like a semicircle). This actually makes it easier to read. The analogue display is also more rounded, and larger, so you can see both displays more clearly. One last thing to mention. The GMAS130-1A has a negative display, which means it has light numbers/letters on a dark background.

    gmas130vc-1a

If you’d prefer a little more colour than the black display offers, you can’t look past the GMAS130VC-1A. While also black, the background writing and progress bars are pink, and the seconds hand is orange (making the analogue part of the watch more eye-catching, so it’s easier to tell the analogue time). It also has a negative display.

    gmas130-7a_2

Finally, we have the GMAS130-7A. This one is completely white, with grey writing on the bezel, grey hands and hour markers. Even the buttons are white (making them blend in with the rest of the watch). This is an almost perfect match for the BGS100-7A1, with the only exception being the digital time is in a rectangular display instead of a semicircle. If you don’t like negative displays, this is the watch to get, as it has dark numbers/letters on a white background.

So, that’s what they look like, but are there any new features? As a matter of fact, there are. First up, when you look at the display of the GMAS130 series, you’ll notice 0% written on the 12 o’clock marker, going all the way from 10% to the goal at the 10 o’clock marker. This is a new feature. Basically, you put in your set amount of steps, and turn on the pedometer. The large, thin hand will then slowly go to 100%. This is a great way to keep up with your fitness goals!

Another big difference in the GMAS vs the BGS series is the level of protection both offer. While both watches have 100m shock resistance, the GMAS also has 200m water resist (while the BGS offers 100m). It’s a great thing to have because it means you can go swimming, and even diving with the GMAS series without worrying about the watch being flooded (though you shouldn’t press any buttons when you’re submerged, nor have it in the shower).

  5. Introducing the Casio G-Shock 810B Series

Introducing, the Casio G-Shock, GA-810B Series

Welcome back to our blog. Last week, I introduced you to the GA710B series, and today I’ll be reviewing the GA-810B watches from Casio. This series actually came about based on how popular the GA-710s were, thanks to its golden makeover (for the GA710B review, click here). Ready to see what the fuss is about? Let’s get to it!

    ga-810b-1a4

First up is the GA-810B-1A4. The black band, bezel and buttons are offset by the illuminator button (rose gold metallic in colour), as well as the rose gold hour markers. This makes the analogue display shine, and grabs your attention right away. Even the gears controlling the hand have been glammed up. Because the hands and hour markers have thickened up considerably, that makes it easier to tell the analogue time.

    ga-810b-1a9_1

Then we have the GA-810B-1A9. This is the perfect watch if you dislike negative displays, as the numbers are large and on a regular screen. The numbers and text on the GA810B series are actually a lot larger, so even if you have bad eyesight, you’ll still be able to tell the digital time. The hands, illuminator button and hour markers are gold, and very thick, for easy readability of the analogue time.

So, let’s talk about some of the features. As part of the GA800 series, the GA810B has a step tracker/pedometer. This is a tool that’s essential if you’re into exercise, because not only will it tell you how many steps you’ve taken, you can program it with a specific goal in mind, and it will sound an alarm if you haven’t reached it within a specific amount of time. You can also use the stopwatch to time how long it too you to reach this goal, and save up to 120 records for later (that way you’ll be able to chart your progress).

The great thing about the GA-810 series is the Super Iluminator. That’s because unlike most analogue/digital combos, this new breed of watch can light up both the analogue and the digital part (which has always been a requested feature in these watches).

Another cool feature, which will benefit people who like to travel, is the dual time. This lets you, at the press of a button, swap between the time in your home city, and the time where you are now. If you’ve ever called somebody not realising it was 4 am there, you know just why this function is necessary!

  6. Introducing the Casio G-Shock 710B Series

Introducing the Casio G-Shock 710B Series

Welcome back to the blog! A while back, Casio decided to experiment with the GA-710 series, to make it look more eye catching. They came up with the GA710, which had metallic blue, silver and gold buttons, hands and hour markers. With the response being overwhelmingly positive, Casio went further, and gave us the GA710B series, as well as the 810B (which will be covered later). Ready to see what makes these watches tick? Here we go!

    GA-710B-1A4

First up is the GA710B-1A4. This watch has a completely black band, bezel and buttons, except for the backlight button, which is in a metallic rose gold. Inside the display the rose gold motif continues, with the hands and hour markers, as well as the feature display also being a rose gold colour. The digital part has a negative display, which is light numbers on a black background.

    GA-710B-1A9

If you’re not a fan of this sort of display, then you’ll want the GA710B-1A9. Now, at first glance, it looks very similar to the GA-710GB-1A (both are black with a gold motif), however, while the 710GB had a gold backdrop surrounding the display, the GA710B gets rid of that feature, leaving more room inside the display to see the time. Best of all, it’s got a regular display, so if the black one is hard for you to read, you won’t have such problems with this model.

So what are some of the features of the GA710B series? Well, first up it’s got what’s known as a super illuminator. This feature lights up both the analogue and digital screens, so at night you can read both screens. The thick hands and hour markers mean that analogue is easily seen, and getting rid of the metallic backdrop let Casio increase the size of both the Analogue and Digital display (making it easier to read).

While the digital display is pretty big, due to the size of the analogue hands, they can sometimes obscure the digital time. There’s an easy solution though, because this watch has a hand shift feature. This will move the analogue hands back to default (12 0’clock) letting you easily see the digital time. Once you’re done, press the Mode button, and the hands will return not just to where they were, but where they would have been had you not turned on the hands shift feature!

One of the best features of the GA710B is the direct start stopwatch. Basically, you no longer need to go searching through the menus for the stopwatch, just press the button and be ready to run (or time your friends). This stopwatch has a new trick too, called the target time alarm. If you’re getting ready for a race (or even if you’re doing practice VCE Exams), you can set the stopwatch to a specific length of time. If you’re unable to do what you set out to do, the target time alarm rings. Having this will definitely help you improve.

  7. Introducing the Citizen Promaster Diving Watch, the BN0194-57E

Introducing the Citizen Promaster Diving Watch, the BN0194-57E

There are lots of watches out there that are water resistant, but only a few are certified and meet ISO Specifications. Lucky for you, the Promaster series is one of them. Whether you like surfing, or work on a ship/ferry, the BN0194-57E is not only tough, but looks good. Let me tell you a little bit about some of the features. Ready? Here We Go!

    bn0194-57e

First up, this model is entirely stainless steel, from case, to band and bezel. Said band is a mix of silver and gold, while the bezel is black and gold. The hands and hour markers are white and gold, as well as very thick, which makes them easily seen on the black display.

Apart from the case, the watch has a gold screw lock crown, with the bezel itself looking like the gears on a clock. Altogether, the watch looks really impressive on your wrist, even without getting into some of the special features.

Now, as mentioned, the watch is a certified diving watch. This means it's able to withstand up to 200m of water pressure. If you're swimming in the ocean, you might be worrying about the seawater, but the stainless steel case and bracelet are durable enough to prevent any corrosive damage, so your watch will function perfectly.

The bezel itself also serves a function apart from looking good. Before starting a dive, you can rotate the bezel so the 12 o'clock position is in sync with the time that you submerge yourself. This way, when you're underwater, you'll know exactly how long you've been swimming, and when to start making your way back in order to make sure you don't run out of oxygen!

The screw lock crown mentioned earlier, also serves an important function. You need to make sure it's screwed in shut before you dive in, because it keeps the water from getting into the gears. So no fiddling with it when you're down there!

Apart from being a diving watch, the BN0194-57E is also an Eco-Drive, which means it will keep running for up to 180 days before you need to charge it up. Charging it is very simple too - just expose it to light (whether sunlight or electrical). You'll have plenty of warning though, since the second hand will start skipping seconds when it's close to low battery power.

The BN0194-57E is out now. Click here for our other Citizens in stock! Until Next Time - Jimmy B

  8. Dress to Impress, with the Citizen Metal AW1240-57L Watch

Dress to Impress, with the Citizen METAL AW1240-57L

First impressions can make or break that all important meeting (whether an interview, or a date), so you need to look your best. That's where the Citizen METAL Series comes in. Welcome to our blog and today, I'll be talking about the AW1240-57L. Ready? Here We Go!

    aw1240-57l_1

Right from the start, you'll notice this watch looks sleek. That's because, unlike a lot of others, this time piece isn't stainless steel. The whole thing is made up of titanium! Now, that may make it a little heavier than most, but it also means the watch is a lot harder to damage.

That durability also extends to the display, which is protected by a scratch resistant sapphire glass. The dial is a dark blue, and looks great on your wrist.

This is a completely analogue model, with a basic design. The hour markers, as well as hands are very easy to see due to them being extra thick, and there's also a date dial at the 3 o'clock marker.

Part of the Eco-Drive models, the watch is powered by light (any sort of light, not just sunlight), so you won't have to worry about changing the batteries for a long time. This model is also water resistant to 100m, so as long as you don't press any buttons while submerged, you can go swimming with the watch, without worrying about it getting stolen or damaged!

The AW1240-57L is out now. For our other Citizens, click here.

Until Next Time - Jimmy B

  9. What Is Eco-Drive?

    What is Eco-Drive?

Introduced to the world in 1995, Citizen Eco-Drive watches became an instant hit! After all, who wants to bother with changing batteries every couple of years? It's too much of a hassle! Welcome to our Citizen Section, and if you haven't already guessed, today I'll be talking about Citizens Eco-Drive series. Ready? Here we go.

Before we start, when I describe some parts of the watches, I might refer to something called "caliber movement". That is just Citizen's version of a Module (which is what gives the watches their features).

As mentioned before, the Eco-Drives came out in 1995. The technology that made it possible was the Caliber 7878 movement. This particular movement was the first one to be able to absorb light, by leaving enough room for tiny solar cells to sit directly on the dial. These cells were so small, that unless you were specifically looking for them, you wouldn't be able to find them.

In order to take full advantage of a solar watch however, you'd need batteries that would hold the charge. Just a solar panel isn't enough. That's why the Eco-Drive movements included titanium rechargeable, or secondary batteries. Thanks to those secondary batteries, once the watch is fully charged, they'll last 180 days before you need to charge them up again.

Here's the best part though. Unlike true "Solar" watches, Eco-Drive could absorb light from any source, whether sunlight, or electrical! And because the batteries themselves are rechargeable, that pretty much eliminates the need to change the batteries, unless they themselves fail.

Citizen could have just coasted on this achievement, but they decided to go further. In our Citizen Section of the store, you'll find simple analogue watches, but you'll also find other types. Some with Chronographs, even Diving watches. The evolution of the movements ensured that Citizen could still offer Eco-Drive watches and make them more advanced! There are watches that pilots use, as well as Wave models (which synchronise themselves with a GPS Satellite, perfect when travelling overseas).

Check out our range of Citizen Watches, and if you don't find what you're looking for, give us a shout! More and more models will be making their way here soon!

Until Next Time - Jimmy B

  10. Best Casio Baby-G Watches on Afterpay

Welcome new and old readers alike! Last week, I discussed our great partnership with Afterpay, and how it makes shopping so much simpler. In that column I focused on the G-Shocks, so today, I figure the Baby-Gs deserve their turn in the spotlight! If you're new and don't know how to use Afterpay, click here, or click here for last week's article. In the meantime, let's get this Baby-G show on the road! Here are, the top 10 Baby-G watches on Afterpay:

    10) BGA-150EF-4B - A perfect gift for your partner or your little princess, the BGA-150EF-4B is elegant, cute, and sure to grab attention. the analogue hands and numbers are really large and easy to read, making this a great tool to teach your kids how to read analogue hands as well.

    bga-150ef-4b_large

    9) BA-112-1A - A spin-off from the popular BA-110 series, the BA-112-1A focuses on bright, noisy colours, making this watch easy to spot if you somehow end up losing it. As with the 110-1As, the watch has an extra-large face fiting both a digital and analogue display.

    ba112_1a

    8) BG-169R-4 - Another one for the little girls in your lives, this is a fully digital watch and includes a fun feature called a databank. This allows you to input phone numbers, so even if your phone runs out of battery, if you need to call somebody, the number will be readily available when you get to a payphone.

    BG-169R-4DR_1_7

    7) BA-110-7A3 - We mentioned the BA-110 series earlier on. It's basically the shrunken version of the GA-110 series, but so either children or women can wear it. Makes for a great present, especially if you have the matching GA-110C-7A

    ba110-7a3_xlarge_1

    6) BG-6901-1 - A watch for athletes, the BG-6901-1 is black and gold, making it easy for boys to wear as well (nobody can call a black and gold watch girly, even if it has Baby-G written on it!). The fully digital screen means if it gets too dark, you can press the backlight button and make the entire display light up.

    bg6901-1_xlarge

    5) BG-6903-7B - As you can guess this is the next step up from the 6901 series. The BG-6903 takes away the unnecessary dials from the top of the screen, and uses the extra space to make the entire screen much more visible. Perfect for when you're running, and don't want to slow down to look at your stopwatch.

    bg6903-7b_xlarge

    4) BA-111-3A - Another spinoff of the BA-110 series, the BA-111-3A is a greenish blue watch. Also analogue/digital, the hands and the hour markers light up after you shine a light on them, making it easy to see the time at night, and letting you conserve battery power. Any light will do.

    ba111-3a_xlarge_1

    3) BA-110-1A - If your little boy (or you) want a saller watch, without being accused of being girly, you can't go wrong with the BA-110-1A. This is the smaller version of the GA-110GB-1A. It's black with the inside surrounded by gold. A watch that's suitable for all ages.

    ba110-1a_xlarge_1

    2) BGS-100-7A1 - a real surprise since it only came out recently, but the BGS-100 has been flying off the shelves! This is an analogue/digital combo with a pedometer. Great for exercising, you can even set it up to remind you when you're below your step limit. And don't bother trying to cheat. The step tracker has a graphing function so it can tell if you're walking or just moving your feet.

    bgs-100-7a1

    1) BGA-151-7B - It was a close one this month, but the BGA-151-7B is still the reigning best seller. It is white, with bits of gold surrounding the display. Easy to use, 100m water resistant, and just looking great on your wrist, if you're buying for yourself or a girlfriend, this is always a go-to watch!

    bga-151-7bdr_4_1

There you have it, I hope I managed to make your Christmas Shopping easier. Until Next Time - Jimmy B
