Previewing the Casio G-Shock GA-800 Series
With the popularity of the GA-700 and the GA-500 before it, Casio has decided to continue the trend, and is soon introducing the GA-800 series! We’ve been lucky enough to get sent a model, so let me take you through all the cool features this baby has!
First up, let’s talk colours. Right now, the GA-800 comes in Red and Black. GA-800-1A is completely black, including a black button just below the display. The GA-800-4A is Red with a black button. Apart from this, the 4A has what’s known as a negative display – a black digital display with white numbers.
As with the GA-500 and 700 series, these watches are a combination of analogue and digital. Usually that’s enough to turn some people off, but Casio has finally fixed an issue that the customers have complained about for years. The GA-800 has a Super Illuminator DUAL LED Light. For those that don’t speak tech, it means both the Analogue and Digital displays are lit up at the touch of a button, making it extremely easy to see the time no matter how dark it is!
The GA-500 and GA-700 have also gained a bit of a reputation for being the Go-To watch for athletes. That’s due to them having a stopwatch you can start from the timekeeping mode (so you didn’t have to look through all of the menus trying to find it), as well as a Target Time Alarm (which allowed you to set yourself a time limit on the stopwatch, and strive to improve your performance).
While the direct stopwatch option is still there, Casio removed the Target Time Alarm in favour of a different feature – Lap Memory. What this means is that you can save up to 120 laps and keep a record of whether you’re improving, or you need more work. If you’re an athlete, that’s a fantastic feature to have.
Look for the GA-800 series to be in stores soon. In the meantime, check out our GA-500, GA-700 and GA-710 models!
